COLOR ANALYSIS

Send a sample with a $20 check and this short form to have your swatch analyzed. Turnaround time is usually 1-2 business days.

$20 Color Analysis Fee gets you:

  • Testing of our line of colors and/or various combinations directly on your swatch to achieve the closest match. We’ll also determine if Clear Prep+Finish™ is needed for priming, glazing, or finishing.

  • Professional consultation and tailored DIY solution for your project.

If our line of colors do not yield a satisfactory match, you can upgrade to a Custom Color, whereby we write a special formula to match your sample and mix from scratch. Please click here to learn more.

THE PROCESS

We mix a small amount of color and test it on your original sample, examining it under sunlight and indoors. We adjust the color accordingly and re-examine until we are content with the formula. This is a painstaking process done with a professional eye. No computer can read the color on a textured surface and write a formula as accurately and certainly not without human refinement (this is especially true with base-and-print or multi- toned samples). We then expand the formula to the desired volume. This final color is tested once more on the original sample and adjusted if necessary. We then use the Custom Color to stain a piece of leather, half of which we send to you, and the other half we retain on file with the original sample in the event of a future re- order.

ABOUT SAMPLES

We ask that a sample be at least 3" x 1" in size, though we have worked with smaller.

A sample can be any of the following:

  • Swatch of the original leather or vinyl (found underneath cushions, along inseams, or stapled to the frame)
  • Cushion case
  • Paint chip from a hardware store
  • Fuse panel cover or headrest from a vehicle (wrap carefully to protect from a box cutter)
  • Piece of drapery or flatware

Photographs of your pieces are helpful in determining quantity of dye needed, but we cannot mix a color to a photograph.

SEND A SAMPLE

Please fill out this short form if you haven’t already. If you mail a physical component such as a headrest, cushion case, etc. we recommend insuring the item with the freight carrier in the event it is lost or damaged!

MIXING FEES

$60 Custom Color Fee gets you:
  • Consultation and tailored solution for your project.
  • Formulation and mixing of your color that we keep on file.
$30 Re-Mix fee gets you:
  • Creation of another batch of your Custom Color per the formula on file.
  • Testing and adjustment against the sample on file.
These service fees do not include the cost of an 8 or 16 oz. bottle of paint or count toward free shipping minimums.

DISCLAIMER

You are embarking on a DIY project. Half the magic is in the application process. Our dyes are easy to use and forgiving but require some creativity and experimentation on your part.

Most samples that we receive are base-and-print or multi-toned. We mix a single color that your eye reads as a match from a short distance. You can choose to work with a single color or two, but replicating the appearance of the original material is up to you.

Swatches often do not resemble their faded counterparts. Therefore a Custom Color also won’t match, and you may have to dye the entire piece. In this instance, you may prefer going with a less expensive stock option.

RETURN POLICY

We do not accept returns or offer refunds for Custom Colors unless we find fault in the product. Our complete return policy here.
