Product Details

Our water-based finishes work on:

absorbent aniline and semi-aniline leather,
non-absorbent full-grain or top-grain leather,
and vinyl upholstery.

Do not use on fabric, suede, nubuck, bonded or faux leather.

Our finishes won’t sun fade or backstain like leather dyes. They don't feel plasticky, flake or peel like spray paints.

Changing color requires poses more maintenance than simply restoring to original. The following are not good candidates and will require touch-up:

changing from red / dark to white / pale;
worn, cracking, scaly or thinning leather;
furniture with lots of wrinkles, folds, deep creases (and therefore stress);
pieces that are heavily used or harshly cleaned (kids, dogs, chemicals);
car or boat upholstery;
bonded, faux or polyurethane (PU) ‘leather’ which repel all finishes (including their own).

Thorough cleaning and stress testing the color are critical! Add 1/2 teaspoon cross-linker per every 2 oz color to improve adhesion and durability. Adding 1 part Satin Sealer to 4 parts color is also recommended to seal bright colors.

How to match a color?

How much do I need?

Colors and clear finishes get the same coverage per bottle. Usually 2-3 coats of color are needed where only one coat of clear finish is needed (so buy half as much of it).

A little goes a long way! These estimates can vary based upon quality and condition of material.

2 oz. covers ~ 15 – 20 square feet
4 oz. covers ~ 30 – 40 square feet
8 oz. covers ~ 60 – 80 square feet
16 oz. covers ~ 120 – 160 square feet

Quality product, but color-matching was a failure. Color on webpage was not the color needed. Should have known, but did not have sample to send.

Dreams DO come true!

This product has changed my view on refurbishing worn or sad leather. I chose the Tobacco shade and am very pleased. I took pink tan leather and deepened the shade to a lovely luxe brown.
The product takes a touch of nuance, but I easily found the way and had no problems bringing the side table leather back to life.
I highly recommend this product line to anyone looking to refresh a piece of leather.

Fabulous

I got four full leather club chairs for free, but they were a little worn. A little elbow Grace and some Love brought these back to looking new with your products! I loved the prep and finish product for taking the color from dull to shiny and vibrant again! I’ve included some photos of before I started the project midway through and then the difference between the color only and color plus finisher

Excellent Results

My cats had all but destroyed my bar stools and I thought they were a lost cause but now they look like new. The Rub and Restore products are excellent and so easy to use that I have ordered more colors to restore other furniture pieces in my home.

Magic!

I love vintage, leather furniture so when I found this chair with matching ottoman I snatched it up! I wasn’t keen on the color, and it some pretty serious fading issues making it look tired and unattractive. I searched for a product that would restore its splendor. I found Rub n Restore and that’s literally all it took to bring this gorgeous set back to life. It couldn’t be easier! And what a transformation!

Amazing result!

I crushed a blueberry into our couch leaving a terrible stain. Then I made it so much worse trying to clean it out. I really thought it was going to be time for a new couch. Skeptical we decided to give Rub and Restore a try. Changing the colour a butterscotch to Tobacco. WOW! It looks like a whole new couch. Total time was about 8 hours of 2 days. We applied with a rag and then immediately stippled\blotted some off with another rag. This gave it a more lived in look. But work fast as this drys in a couple of minutes. Best to stick to smaller areas or have one person applying and one person removing. We did a total of 4 coats. Hig...More

Highly recommend getting a drop cloth and covering a table to work on the cushions. That really saves your back.

I would say that 4 to 1 still gave it quite a glossy finish but overall we could not be happier with how it turned out! Would definitely recommend.

We are very satisfied with ease of use, their instructions and results. Our leather couch had 1 pillow where the dye had completely worn off. I used this product and not only was the color restored, I was able to blend it in with the color in the rest of this pillow. Very very pleased.

Worked for our Vinyl Headboards

We used many products, especially Amazon Dyes for staining and discoloration on our headboards and nothing worked like this. The sheen wasn't the same but without direct sunlight blended almost perfect.

Awesome product!

I previously tried a "coloring balm" for leather from Amazon. It was a huge fail! Rub'nRestore helped me find the perfect match (Tobacco.) I am so pleased with the results I had with Rub'nRestore! Amazing!

This is amazing! Our twelve-year-old couches were badly scratched up (not super quality, so the leather was not deeply dyed) and Rub n' Restore seeped right in and the couches look 100% better! We may order the clear coat to add some shine, but are happy with just the color coat. Most areas only took one coat, but I went over a few problem areas with a second coat. We didn't have any problems with streaking or bubbles.

Better Than Buying A $2K Couch

Very thick and chunky

This is my second time using RnR. First time was black on the white dash of my car. It worked great. Very liquid and flowed nicely. This time, Tobacco, and it was thick and chunky. Almost like it had been frozen the liquid evaporated. No amount of stirring would thin it. I squeezed very hard and rubbed the pasty stuff until it stained my shoes. I didn't think it covered the existing brown anywhere as well as the black covered the white the first time. Not sure if I'll get more again, or not. Which is a shame because I've been telling people about how good RnR is for about 5 years. I'll have to wait and see if I hear back from them or not.

Sounds like it froze in transport. This is more problematic for smaller-sized bottles in winter months. We have reached out via email to rectify the issue.

This stuff is awesome. I was shopping for a new sofa because the leather was so bad. Tried the sponge and it did not cover the discoloration. Used a paint brush and it covered perfectly. The color blended exactly. Looks like a new sofa. So happy with the results.

From basement reject to living room showcase!

Red leather sofa from IKEA didn’t work for us anymore and was relegated to the basement. When my son and his wife needed a sofa, we decided to give Rubn’Restore a try. It was shocking to see what a difference it made!!! It looks brand new and is beautiful now. I purchased a 16oz bottle of Tobacco and a 16 oz bottle of sealer. 3 coats of color, followed by 2 layers of color mixed with sealer on the sponge. I still have color left over for minor repairs and plenty of sealer. I could have purchased a smaller sealer, but wanted to use it on a couple of other pieces in my home that just need a refresher. Cat Scratch Disaster

Let me just say, when I rescued this couch I had ambitions of repairing the surfaces and re-dyeing it. After researching waterbased fillers vs alcohol based dyes, I decided to try this waterbased colorant. I needed something that would get total coverage, even over lots of filler. And it totally worked! If you need to cover up some serious discoloration I would recommend this. I put an acrylic clear coat on at the end, so that's why it's so shiny.

Excellent and Easy to Use

I love that they help you select the right products and methods for your restoration project. The color and finish apply very easily and is quite forgiving. I restored this well worn but high quality Stickley leather couch in about 2 hours (with three small tears). I found It's best to work in one small area at a time and rub in a circular motion. I blended the conditioning sealer with the color and finished with just the conditioning sealer right after to give it some shine and to keep it's slightly worn look that I like. The only thing I wish they would improve is the gloves they send. Would be nice for it to come with some nitrile gloves i...More

Project complete

We were debating on getting our old comfortable club chair recovered, but after watching the videos and speaking to Lesandre on the phone, my wife and I gained the confidence we needed to tackle the project of restoring it instead.
